Parvana's father dies and Parvana is forced to continue her search for her mother. When she finds that the family she is staying with is planning on turning her over to the taliban she leaves until she ends up in an abandoned city. She finds a weak baby beside a dead, crushed mother and takes him on, cleaning and feeding him, and named him Hassan after her late older brother. She also finds a cave boy with only one leg and he goes with her on their journey. They find a place which Parvana calls 'Green Valley'. A girl named Daisy lives there with her grandmother and they stay there happily, living off the pigeons and garden. When Green Valley is bombed, Daisy's grandmother dies and they leave, joining a refugee camp. Daisy gets killed on a land mine and a nice woman comforts the mourning Parvana. It is Parvana's mother. To find out what happened to Shauzia, read Mud City.
I would suggest this book to anybody who likes suspense and surprise and doesn't mind a little gore. I would also recommend this book to someone 10-11 and up. It is a great book for adults.
